So, last Sunday night, Emily ate a few apple "Newton" type things; next thing we knew...boom! COVERED head to toe in horrible hives. She looked like she'd been attacked by a swarm of giant mosquitoes! I was confused, since she's had apple products like, at least once a week for the last 10 months or so... So, I read the label carefully, and saw that it contains a pretty large amount of figs as well, so I figured it was that (or some preservative in there). We took her to the doctor Monday morning, and he gave us the green light to give her children's Benedryl (we hadn't yet, since the label basically forbade it for anyone under six). He also said I was likely right about it being figs (or something else ingested), because of the way they were all over the place, not just localized (like with a topical reaction). He told us to give it 24 hours on the Benedryl, and they should be gone. So, we get up Wednesday and: her eyes were so puffy, she looked like her newborn self... she had a fat lip, her hand was all red and swollen, as was part of each foot. And still... hives all over. So, essentially... she's worse. We take her back in (Mike came home from work, which is a good 30 minutes away), and the doctor was like "wow!" So, now she's on a liquid steroid for a week. Yep. No more figs, or any other "red flag" ingredient I spotted. Tags: allergies, appointments, health Current Mood: busy

So, here's the story... Mike sleeps with a C-PAP machine for his Sleep Apnea. When he falls asleep without the mask on (especially if he's snoring), I call his name, nudge him awake, hand it to him, and push the power button. So, yesterday, he fell asleep for a nap, and started to snore... Emily walks over to Mike's side of the bed, picks up the mask, says "Dad... Dad... Dad" until he woke up, handed it to him, and pushed the power button (in the center of three buttons)!! WHAT!? Granted, she pushed the button a bit too soon, and I had to re-do it, but still... 15 months old, people! She's going to be one of these kids you hear about who help deliver a baby when they're like, five years old. Tags: health, milestones, smarty pants Current Mood: impressed

She's getting good at this walking thing. The most interesting part? She doesn't fall down. The other babies I've known take a few steps and fall down/sit hard, when learning to walk. Emily takes her steps (more at a time each day), then just stands still for a while, before going back to crawling, or kneeling down. It's quite interesting. Maybe it's because she started walking at an older age than the other babies I was around? I don't know. Emily's in the "average," which is 14-15 months (she started right between the two), but many in my family walked quite early (myself, I was late... like, 20 months, or something). Speaking of age, she's 15 months old today. Wow. It's so fast! Tags: milestones, walking progress Current Mood: pleased

"Thank you," She brings her open hand (palm up) to her mouth/chin, instead of starting there and going outward. Although, you do kind of have to put it up there first, so it's not so much reversed as it is cut in half. ;-) She also has a new "happy dance" move, where she puts her hands out and twists back and forth at the waist. Usually while eating something she likes, but at random times, also. Too funny! She's saying new words here and there. She repeats things after we say them, but like, just the one time. hee hee. Not sure where I left off on the "official" word list, so I'll check that out, and update. EDIT: word and sign list below this cut... ( Read more... )This kid's a talker... runs in the family. LOL!
